Central Appalachian Region Proposal Submitted

A full proposal  was submitted in conjunction with University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and Farm to Fly 2.0, to the 2017 Biomass Research and Development Initiative (BRDI) solicitation for hardwood-derived sustainable aviation jet fuel supply chain development in the Central Appalachian Region.  The region includes Kentucky, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia and the proposal seeks to utilize the abundant supply of hardwood woody biomass, and both the current and formerly mined lands suitable for dedicated feed supply production, to produce jet fuel.  The area is strategically located to serve east coast commercial aviation hubs and Department of Defense Naval installations. A second proposal with UTK, VA F2F2 and University of West Virginia was submitted to the US Forest Service’s 2018 Wood Grants (WIG) for biorefinery coproduct market development. Beyond its regional significance, these efforts also represent a new and significant collaboration between the F2F2 State teams and ASCENT.
